Action principles lie at the heart of fundamental physics,
from classical mechanics through quantum mechanics, particle
physics, and general relativity.
The principle of least action states that physical systems
evolve along paths that minimize the action, a quantity
integrating energy over time, providing a unifying framework
for classical, quantum, and relativistic physics.
The mathematics presented may seem overwhelming. Don't worry
about that. What we care about are the primary concepts. The
mathematics underpins those concepts, but it's the concepts
that's important in this class.
