Jan 5 "Prophetic Voices" Speakers: Annette Rowley
Facilitators: Barb Evenson
Pianist: Anne Kimber (9 AM), Peggy Earnshaw (11 AM)
Special Music: Fellowship Voices
The 2nd Principle, "Justice, equity and compassion in human
relations" comes from the words and deeds of prophetic women
and men which challenges us to confront powers and structures
of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power
of love. Join us as we examine what William Blake, English Poet,
Artist and Visionary can teach us.
Jan 12 "UU Principles and Modern Speakers: Curt Struck
Science" Facilitators: Linda Barnes
[Children - 1st 15 min] Pianist: Ginny Molgaard (9 am) Peggy Earnshaw (11 am)
Special Music:
UU principles advise us to follow "humanist teachings which counsel
us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and (which)
warn us against idolatries of the mind and the spirit." The discoveries
and theories of modern science, and the physical sciences in particular,
do more than provide us a shield of rationality to protect us against
such "idolatries." The mysterious paradoxes and hidden dimensions of
these "empirically tested" conceptual frameworks encourage our awe and
wonder of our universe.
Jan 19 "What did the Speakers: Jane Vallier
Transcendentalists Transcend?" Facilitators: Laura Hatfield
Pianist: Cynthia Marten (9 AM) Sue Haug (11 AM)
Special Music: Pam Schwab & Tom Russell
Our New England Transcendentalist founders were a curious
lot of human beings, and a small lot at that. How could so
few people have such a disproportionate effect on American
culture and religion? Open to wonder and given over to an
almost bizarre individuality, they laid a foundation for an
American counterculture that has both religious and secular
dimensions today.
Jan 26 "A Free and Responsible Speakers: Bill Larsen
Search" Facilitators: Kay Puttock
[Children - 1st 15 min] Pianist: Sue Haug
Special Music: UUFA Piano Trio
Our Unitarian Universalist common principles affirm the encouragement
of spiritual growth, and the free and responsible search for truth and
meaning. We will explore some aspects of these principles, based in part
on the efforts of a group which has been engaged for over four years in
the study of the historical Jesus.

(pronounced Breed's) Facilitators: Kelly Poole
Pianist: Peggy Earnshaw (both services)
Special Music: Women In the Round, Free Spirits
At the midpoint of winter, we see the days lengthen and look
forward to the coming of spring. This is the date of the feast
of Brigid, a Celtic goddess who was canonized as an Irish saint.
Brigid's sacred well will be our starting point for exploring
earth-centered spirituality.
Feb 9 "The religious Imgination" Speakers: Rev. Brian Eslinger
Facilitators: Toby Ewing & Kelly Poole
[Children - 1st 15 min] Pianist: Sue Haug (both services)

In many religious traditions one employs visions or the imagination
to help discern what can be for themselves and their world. We'll
explore this idea and how it might apply to our religious community.
Feb 16 "What in the World?" Speakers: Rev. Brian Eslinger
Facilitators: Linda Barnes
Pianist: Anne Richards Omidvar
Special Music: Danny Apatiga (Debussy)
In every corner of the world there seems to be another religion!
In this pluralistic age how do we approach these other believers,
learning respectfully but not loosing sight of who we are?
Feb 23 "The Means of Meaning Speakers: Rev. Brian Eslinger
Facilitators: Barb Evenson
[Children - 1st 15 min] Pianist: N/A
Special Music: CIS Brass
Achieving a meaningful life is often high on our list of priorities.
One of the major places we seek meaning is in our religious/spiritual
lives. We'll examine some of the latest thought on the role of meaning
for us human beings, and what that implies for our religious journeys.

Mar 16 "The Morality of Abortion" Speakers: Krista Jacob with George Naylor
Facilitators: George Naylor & Linda Barnes (planning)

Special Music:
Abortion is one of the most common surgical procedures performed
in the United States. On a global level, the abortion issue is
inextricably linked to social justice issues such as poverty, over
population, and women's societal status. Yet, because of the highly
political and controversial nature of this issue, the personal and
spiritual aspects are frequently neglected.
Krista Jacob, editor of "Our Choices, Our Lives: Unapologetic
Writings on Abortion", will share experiences from her work as
an abortion counselor and will touch on personal and spiritual

beliefs and practices in private life, Commander-in-Chief of the
Continental Army, and President. It will conclude by addressing

we have in mind. To find out more about "Fellowship Circles" and

Jun 8 "Cosmology Marches On" Speakers: Sam Wormley, Toby Ewing
Facilitators: Toby Ewing
Pianist: Sue Haug
Special Music:
Two thousand years ago we could easily imagine ourselves to be the
purpose of creation. In the last four hundred year Copernicus, Kepler,
Galileo, Newton and Einstein shook our ideas that the Earth was the
center of Universe. We now know that we are on a habitable planet,
circling an average star, lost on the edge of a typical galaxy in a
lost corner of the universe. The Big picture has changed in the last
year. Join us and find out why! And find out why we are so connected!

reality of God. But anyone who lives in this world lives in a world in
which the concept of God is alive and powerfully influential. Whether
as reality or influential concept, God exists.
Jul 20 "G. Verdi: Speakers: Anita Beal <AnitaMBeal@aol.com>
..Italy's first Mega-star" Facilitators: Annette Rowley, Wayne Beal
Pianist: none needed
Special Music:
Giuseppe Verdi was much more than a composer of operatic music. He
was strongly anticlerical and would drive his wife to church but he
would not enter. He was known for his love of farming, calling
himself the "Farmer of Busetto". He was kind to those who were in
need. One of his greatest hopes was to see Italy united as one
Nation. He helped accomplish this through his fiery and patriotic
music.

behavior with overconsumption of media and overuse of technology. It
focuses on how media and technology flatten perception and dull conscience,
with recommendations to live deeply in real community with others.
*The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, a book written by Stephen
R. Covey has to do with one's paradigm on life-one's worldview, the

of life, and color one's understanding of all of life.
Aug 17 "Sanctuary" Speakers: Rev. Brian Eslinger
Facilitators: Barb Evenson
Pianist: Cynthia Marten (call her if needed)
Special Music:
The word "sanctuary" sets off different images in many people's minds.
For some it is the unfriendly daunting room of their childhood religion,
for others it is the place where safety was found fro run away salves
and, more recently, illegal immigrants. Sanctuary is a religious word
that can have meaning in how we shape our every day lives and gain the
peace needed to face the everyday world.
