Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Grid - National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) formerly the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) (formerly the Defense Mapping Agency) adopted a special grid for military use throughout the world called the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) grid. Technical Manual 8358.2 The Universal Grids: Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) and Universal Polar Stereographic (UPS) - This manual describes geographic to grid and grid to geographic conversions from the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) and the Universal Polar Stereographic (UPS) grids. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) provides timely, relevant and accurate geospatial intelligence in support of national security.
