Alvie - Both exhibits you emntioned below would be terrific. Maybe the Historican Society curator can give a talk. There is a lot of general history in there. Here are some ideas on topics:

Early Presidential Campaigns - Smoke filled rooms, Machine Politics, and party bosses - Historian

"Good Government" Reforms and More Democratic Selection of Candidates -

The Iowa Caucuses - jmmcc@iastate.edu, Jim McCormick wrote a good piece in the Alumni magazine Visions (Winter 2008) on this and it would make a good talk.

The Role of Political Parties Including Third Parties - jhutter@iastate.edu, Jim Hutter does Political Parties

The Role of Money in Campaigns -

Polling and Focus Groups - The Role of the Media - mshelley@iastate.edu, Mack Shelley is my book co author and a good speaker.

Rhetoric and Speech making in Campaigns - rdearin@iastate.edu, Ray Dearin is an expert in political rhetoric.

The Best and Worst Presidential Campaign Commercials

The 2008 Campaign in Perspective - Steffen Schmidt (depends on date)

If you call Chales Dobbs, Chair of History he can tell you who in History is US History and could do a talk on that! 294-1373  cdobbs@iastate.edu

Thank you for agreeing to assist me in coordinating the above course.

The course includes eight 1.5 hour classes. Class dates are September 15/16 thru November 3/4. Class times are 9:00 to 10:30, 11:00 to 12:30, 1:00 to 2:30 and 3:00 to 4:30. Classes will be held in the new ISU Alumni Building.

The course content and presenters are wide open at this time. My thought at this time is that the primary focus of the course is on past Presidential Campaigns while incorporating discussion on the 2008 Presidential Campaign.

Again, thank you!!!
